Kill The Beast Graham Bradley 9780692837634 Books Reviews
Gautier is a great flawed protagonist in this retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It's pretty much the mirror universe version of Beauty and the Beast with Gautier (mirroring Gaston) being the readers protagonist.
The narration is awesome in the audio version of this book. Having been to Belgium and France, it's awesome to hear an authentic accent for this French-styled short story.
Beauty and the Beast with a steampunk setting and an unexpected twist. What could be better? It's a short and fun read. Great characters. I loved the illustrations too.
I'd classify this as a steampunk fractured fairytale. It was a quick, fun read. The cover has a great design, the inner artwork is fun and full of personality, and the premise of the story is delightfully intriguing. I was curious about the twist (Gaston telling this story about Belle being wrong) and there were some great character insights to the original tale that I hadn't thought of before. Overall, the work was quite imaginative and it gave me a lot to think about when I finished reading it. It is a bit satyrical of its Disney cartoon counterpart Beauty and the Beast.
Overall, this work is a little rough around the edges with a few typos here and there, but the 5 stars are for originality and heart.
Think this is just another fairy tale re-tale? Stop right there and read this tale as old as...time bombs and tinkering invention? Yeah, you know you want to find out how this unique twist on Beauty and the Beast was pieced together. Dr Frankenstein himself would rate this story five stars, I have no doubt.
You'll be instantly charmed by the complex characters and their strange encounters and dangerous crusade. This novella isn't just funny and cheeky, it's actually quite moving and a bit heartbreaking too. The smitten heart will even learn a good lesson in how keeping the eyes a bit wider than the willing and open arms is a wise move. (Plus, you ladies will enjoy the scrumptious role-reversal Darcy-and-Elizabeth-style love-hate interactions of the hero and leading lady.) Bradley moves us effortlessly from introspective thought to exciting action, scene after scene, and leaves us feeling as content as after riding a favorite attraction at Disneyland (then getting a cup of Dole Whip too!).
A fun twist on the story we know
I haven't read many books like this, where a well known story is told from a different angle, but this one was entertaining. Lots of action to help turn the pages and a good story of a "bad" guy being the good guy.
Loved the switch on the classic tale of Beauty & the Beast. Quick read, but a great story that keeps you intrigued.
