Cain Casey is close to getting everything she wants. Her partner Emma is pregnant with their third child, her children are safe and happy, and her business is still thriving despite the FBI’s vendetta. Life is perfect on the surface, but it’s the underbelly that worries her. Her long-time enemy Juan Luis and his new partner, rogue agent Anthony Curtis have disappeared; her cousin Muriel has gotten serious about Shelby Philips, the FBI agent in charge of the Casey surveillance team; and her business partner, Remi Jatibon, is facing trouble from her new love Dallas’s secret past.

While Cain struggles to defeat a new enemy—a woman who just may be her equal when it comes to destroying those who stand against her family—an unimaginable betrayal may bring Cain’s charmed life to an end.

The fourth book in the Casey Family Saga series

The Devil be Damned Cain Casey Series Book 4 edition by Ali Vali Literature Fiction eBooks

I listened to the first two books on audio and found them entertaining so I grabbed this one. The story has flaws and a few too many characters at times. Still I found the story entertaining enough to contemplate reading the next in the series. I really love Cain, she's incredibly fun to read. I also like Muriel and wish the story line had focused more on her and her dilemma with the FBI agent. I would love to have seen that entire situation with Shelby more from Muriel's point of view. I think it would have been awesome but I did enjoy the story.

The Devil be Damned Cain Casey Series Book 4 edition by Ali Vali Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

What's not to like. Love this story line and the characters.
All I can say about this series, I have already said in the first three parts. It does not stop. Every time you get sucked back in another action. And every time you expect the fatal end. It continues to fascinate and the tension and emotions is sometimes unbearable. This is really a great series.
Read the whole series. You will love it.
A mobsters life never ends until their death I love these books with Emma and Cain in there family. I am on to the fifth book in the series and look forward to more too more...Also if you like books on tape the first two books in this series are available.
I love the Cain and Emma storyline. The love, the power, the complete trust and honesty in the world of the mob might be rare but it is the lifeline of their relationship. The people in their lives just makes their story that much more real and it makes the stories that much more exciting.
I have been reading Ali Vali Caine Casey series and loving them. I think this one might be my favorite book yet. It is so action packed and you are meeting lots of new characters. I a, very excited about the new one coming out 1/16/2018 Heart of the Devil which is Caine and Emma's back story. I just love it when Emmy calls Caine mobster....Keep em coming Ali.
First off, I love this entire series. I count it as one of the best in the lesbian romance section, and I think the author is doing a fantastic job of describing New Orleans, especially for people who've never been. However, there are a couple of things that I have noticed throughout the series that kind of put a hitch in the experience, at least for me. Honestly, if you only plan on reading each book once, you probably won't even notice, and it's probably just me. But I've always had a slight problem with Vali's characters in the Casey books. Slight spoilers, and I mean slight. Barely there, no major plot points to be stumbled upon.

I find most of the characters in this series to be highly unbelievable. This includes pretty much all of the main chars, but especially Cain. The author somehow managed to paint a criminal as this amazingly incorruptible person, which really doesn't make any sense; she is a criminal. Think about it what can you say about Cain Casey that can qualify as a fault? Besides being a mob boss and periodically killing people. But even then the victims are always portrayed as cruel, or "the bad guys." She smart, rich, attractive, powerful, humble, loyal blah blah blah etc. Everywhere she goes women are attracted to her, whether straight or gay themselves. I understand the author had to somehow convince the readers to like the main character even though she IS technically a bad guy, but making her into this "hero" doesn't really do it well. I mean, you could argue that she's TOO clever I guess. Another thing that became clear through some rereads, if you're not with Cain, you're either incompetent, selfish or just plain evil.

As an example Emma before they got back together. Selfish, naïve and made to seem desperate. Then they get back together and all the sudden she's the mother, daughter and wife everyone wants. After Muriel gets together with Shelby, she goes from slick, intelligent lawyer type, to more of a weak...well, you'll see it when you get there. Every enemy mob boss is seen as cruel and they blunder through every one of their operations. It's like, you're talking about drug lords at the top of the food chain, I doubt they'll be making stupid mistakes like that. And oh gosh, don't even get me started on the FBI. As someone who's uncle counts himself among their ranks, the way they botch everything in the books is just plain embarrassing. There's a scene in the book that made me want to shake my head at the author. I can promise you, if the FBI did do something like that (I'm not saying they don't), they'd at least be smart enough not to do it in public.

One last thing, and it's one of the ones that's gotten me since the first book, and made another appearance in this one (in a way). You are married for however many years, have managed to build a life together, create a family together and you just let the love of your life walk out with barely an argument? It's like Emma said, "I'm leaving," and Cain was like, "Ok." Goes to cry in her office. In my opinion, love is something you fight for. Emma was selfish and in the wrong for leaving like that, but I think I might've tried for longer than 10 minutes to convince her to stay. Another situation like that happened with Remi and Dallas, and it really just baffled me. If you're ready to just walk away at a moments notice, what does that say about your relationship? I makes me a little disappointed Vali spent so much time weaving the intricacies of the mob life but left her characters shallow and very black and white.

I just realized this review turned out far more negative then I had planned. Maybe just take this as more of a critique than a review, as well as with a grain of salt. Either way, I will be buying the next book in the series.
